Elliott House front porch

ARCHITECTURE

The vintage lap style siding still exists and is in very good condition. The home also features a moderate size covered front porch with overstated squared-off columns. The home is a basement style construction which was originally excavated by hand and involved a team of horses and a sled/ramp configuration, to excavate the dirt out of what would become the basement. As a result of the basement construction, the home is well elevated and sits slightly higher than the neighboring homes.

INTERIOR DESIGN

The main level or living area of the home consists of a large common living room and dining area, a kitchen area, and a bathroom featuring a vintage claw-foot tub, vintage hardware and vintage shower curtain configuration. Three bedroom areas make up the remaining rooms. Off of the kitchen area, there is a small “dining nook” (very cute) with a built-in counter and seating, featuring vintage tile on the countertop and vintage style flooring. As well as a separate back porch/mudroom area that leads to the backyard.

GROUNDS

Giant Oak – we have been told by an arborist that this tree actually seems to be a mix between a Live Oak and California Oak. This tree is possibly hundreds of years old and imported along with a few other trees and bushes from the European market at the time they were planted.

FLORA

Established plants would include the Douglas Fir (opposite to the oak), a very large wisteria (with a trunk of about 10” diameter), a vintage “snowball tree” along with 2 ancient lilacs and 2 unknown but interesting specimens at the front of the home. Sadly, there was an exceedingly large “monkey puzzle” tree at the right front of the home – unfortunately this tree died in 2005/2006 – a new monkey puzzle tree was planted in the exact same spot.

CHRISTMAS

We have owned Elliott House for almost 30 years and we have always been very fond of Christmas, and we have gone out of our way to decorate it. Over the years we have improved and increased the number of lights and decorations, but our main principle was always try to keep it very classic looking.
